Frequently Asked Questions
How do i purchase your images?
High Res JPG versions of all images on this site are available to purchase on my Patreon site AMBER SKY PATREON. This includes single use and licensing.
Please send me an email and we can discuss pricing. Fees can be free for some use cases.
Can you do photo editing for me?
Yes, I am always happy to do editing for people. If you can send me a request to my email address along with an idea of what you are looking for then we can discuss what needs to be done.
I charge £5 per image that i edit, with discounts for bulk requests. Please note that i am not a professional retoucher, and edits are done mostly in the style you see here on my portfolio. I only expect payment once you receive the images and you are happy with them. This is more of a fun experiment, and the payment is purely to cover my time. If you do not like the edits (I will send one as an example) then no payment is required.
Can i hire you to shoot my wedding/event?
Yes and no. I do not do wedding photography unless it is for close friends and family, it is not something i enjoy. Other events though such as baby shoots, christenings, birthday parties, family gatherings (that don’t involve people getting married) are generally fine, depending on the location and date.
Mostly i do still only do these type of shoots for people i know, but if you get in touch and have some idea around what you want and if it appeals to me then i would be happy to do it. As previously stated, i am not, and am not looking to be a professional photographer, which is why i can pick and choose what i do. If something catches my attention though or if you have a fun event or idea, then please do get in touch. Costs are by arrangement, though as a ballpark, expect to pay about £50 per hour.
Can you teach me about photography?
I am an amateur hobbyist. I do not consider myself a professional photographer, however i am always happy to share what i know and enjoy showing or teaching people about photography. My Patreon page is AMBER SKY PATREON for anyone interested in joining. On there i will be posting video tutorials about photography, my thought processes, editing and more.
Do you ever shoot on film?
Yes. I love film, i have a collection of film cameras and lots of vintage rolls of film still stored. The trouble i find these days is that the cost is quite high. Developing, printing and buying film is not cheap. It also takes up a lot more time than digital, where editing is simple and basically free. I do shoot on instant film a lot though. I have a lot of Polaroid and Fuji cameras and use these quite often.
What style do you think you have? How do you develop a style?
My style, as such, is likely a bit random. I think there is a common approach to my composition and subject types, and also my editing has a few themes that repeat. I tend to like simple arrangements, not too cluttered or with too many elements. There is a saying “What doesn’t add to the image takes away from it.” This means that any part of the picture that doesn’t need to be there should be removed or avoided. Of course this isn’t always possible when doing fast paced street photography. A scene can change in a fraction of a second and you are at the mercy of what other people are doing, but its useful to at least try and find a location that will not be too busy or cluttered with additional elements that don’t add to the picture.
My overall style is, hopefully, about story telling. Each image should have some sort of story to tell, even if it is obscure or nothing important to anyone else. An example is my image of the orange chairs on the ferry. That was just after a storm, the sky was clearing and the light was a little strange, which you can see in the picture. The sea was strangely calm, and the ferry deserted about from me and my friend. That comes across in the image i think, it has a certain calm, solitary feel.
